New Century Transportation's William P. Macready Receives Inaugural Transcaer® Distinguished Service Award
ARLINGTON, VA (April 30, 2008) – The National TRANSCAER® Task Group today presented the first-ever TRANSCAER (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) Distinguished Service Award to William P. Macready for his 20 years of exceptional service, leadership and commitment to the principles of TRANSCAER. Mr. Macready is Corporate Account Executive at New Century Transportation, Inc. in Westampton, NJ.
TRANSCAER is the voluntary, nationwide outreach effort that helps communities prepare for and respond to possible hazardous material transportation incidents. Volunteers consist of representatives from chemical producers, distributors, carriers, first responders and government agencies. The TRANSCAER Distinguished Service Award recognizes exceptional service to the public far beyond routine TRANSCAER activities. Exceptional performance of normal TRANSCAER duties will not alone justify this award.
Rollie Shook, CPP, Emergency Services and Security Senior Leader of The Dow Chemical Company and National TRANSCAER Task Group Chairman, explained “this award signifies that Mr. Macready’s peers recognize his dedication to this critical program.”
As former Chair of the National TRANSCAER Task Group, Mr. Macready has served at the highest levels of the program, but he has also worked hard in the “trenches.” Starting in 1990, he served as TRANSCAER’s New Jersey Coordinator, adding Pennsylvania to his portfolio in 1993. Since 1994, he has been an active participant in the yearly Norfolk Southern Whistle Stop Tours that bring emergency response training directly to rail communities.
A featured speaker at major industry, government and community meetings and conferences, Mr. Macready works closely with federal, state and local officials, broadening the range and depth of the TRANSCAER program. In particular, he has encouraged partnerships between citizens and industry and helped communities identify hazmat issues and enhance their response programs.
“It is obvious that Bill has met the award criteria for Distinguished Service Award,” noted Mr. Shook. “Bill’s devotion to TRANSCAER, his energy and dedication to this initiative’s principles are beyond anyone’s expectations.”
TRANSCAER is sponsored by the American Chemistry Council, Association of American Railroads, Chemical Educational Foundation, CHEMTREC®, The Chlorine Institute, Inc., and National Tank Truck Carriers, Inc. For more information on TRANSCAER visit www.TRANSCAER.org.
