Overview
Training includes:
- Classroom instruction and simulated hands-on training scenarios
- Sulphur and sulphuric acid truck/tank trailer and tank cars on display for familiarization of components and operation
- Lunch will be provided, Sponsored by AdvanSix
- Certificates will be provided via email following event sign-in

Participants will have the opportunity to:
-Understand chemical and physical properties of molten sulphur, sulphuric acid, hydrogen sulfide – exposure mitigation and treatment
-Review of bulk loading and unloading facilities, operations, containers and associated hazards for molten sulfur and sulfuric acid
-Learn response considerations for emergency responders to sulphur and sulphuric acid related incidents including truck spill, rail spill, and Sulphur fire
-Learn roles and responsibilities of incident command and understand post-incident remediation
-Be exposed to rail safety considerations including a basic understanding of tank cars via CSX pro / training rail cars
-Gain a better understanding and general awareness of your industrial neighbors - "excellent for local community leaders"

Classroom Sessions
Molten Sulphur - An overview of molten sulphur including its chemical and physical properties, hazards, placards, labels, containers, tank construction and more. Presented by The Sulphur Institute.
Sulfuric Acid - An overview of sulfuric (sulphuric) acid, including its chemical and physical properties, hazards, placards, labels, containers, tank construction and more. Presented by AdvanSix.
Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfur Dioxide - An overview of H2S and S02, their properties, hazards, and a review of a real life event. Presented by Epic Brokerage.
Emergency Response - An overview of response considerations for first responders when responding to sulphur and sulphuric acid related incidents including truck spill, rail spill, and sulphur fires.
Railroad 101: Learn about railroad operations, hazards, and safety rules. Rail hazmat safety and emergency response procedures are reviewed. Presented by CSX Transportation.
AskRail® Mobile App: Learn about The AskRail smartphone app - a safety tool giving first responders immediate access to accurate, timely data about what type of hazardous materials a railcar is carrying. Presented by Norfolk Southern.
Field Observations
Station 1 (Understanding Tank Cars): Learn about the anatomy of general service and pressure tank cars including protective housings; tank components; safety appliances; jacket, shell, and head construction; placards and markings on CSX prop / training rail cars. Presented by: CSX Transportation
Station 2 (Tank Car Loading / Valves and Fittings): Learn about the general processes for loading sulfuric acid into rail CARS, the working components in this process, potential leak scenarios, the associated hazards, and mitigation considerations. Presented by: AdvanSix
Station 3 (Tank Truck Loading / Valves and Fittings): Learn about the general processes for loading sulfuric acid into tank TRUCKS (cargo trailers), the working components in this process, potential leak scenarios, the associated hazards, and mitigation considerations. Presented by: AdvanSix
Important Details
Required Safety Gear: In order to participate in the field exercise portion of the day you will need to have with you a hard Hat, Safety Glasses with side shield coverage, Leather Gloves, Long sleeved shirt, and substantial closed toe shoes or boots.
Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.
Be at the site by 8:30AM for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Attendees will be asked to complete a liability waiver in order to enter the AdvanSix Site.
