Overview

The Railroad Investigation and Safety Course provides first responders with critical information allowing them to effectively respond to and safely investigate incidents involving the railroad.  Attendees will learn personal safety techniques while they are investigating a grade crossing collision or trespasser incident, in addition to maintaining on-scene safety unique to the railroad environment. 

This RISC event is teaming up with CSX's Responder Incident Training (RIT) Train, allowing for a more immersive experience, providing both classroom and hands-on activities.

Description

Classroom Session

Session 1: Covers general railroad knowledge and safety, on-scene safety, reporting information, legal issues and best practices/tips for working near the tracks and investigating rail incidents.

Field Exercise

Field Exercise: Includes training on track material, signals, rail cars, and locomotives.  

Lunch: Lunch will break at approximately 12:00 p.m. 

 

 

Important Details

Required Safety Gear: Bring range-style safety glasses and Hi-Viz vests (traffic vest).  Wear closed-toed shoes/boots and long pants

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.

Be at the site by 08:00. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.

Registration will remain open but will be capped at 15 per day.
