Overview

BNSF, CPKC, & UPRR are providing a free 8-hr railroad hazmat and emergency response training class at CPKC’s Response Equipment Cache facility in Kansas City, KS.

The facility’s railroad training equipment and several training props will be brought in and used for hands-on training by the participating railroad sponsors

Description

Morning General Sessions 

Railroad 101: Learn about railroad operations, hazards, and safety rules. Rail hazmat safety and emergency response procedures are reviewed.  

AskRail® Mobile App: Learn about The AskRail smartphone app - a safety tool giving first responders immediate access to accurate, timely data about what type of hazardous materials a railcar is carrying.  

Hands-on Training

Breakout 1 – Pressure vs Non-Pressure Tank Car Housings on CPKC High props 

Breakout 2 – Common Tank Car Leaks w/ Valves, Fittings, and Pressure Relief Devices using BNSF’s Railroad Hazmat Prop Trailer

Breakout 3 – Chlorine C Capping Kit application on chlorine housing props 

Breakout 4 – Locomotive response using CPKC’s Locomotive Cab Prop

Afternoon General Sessions 

Case Studies: Overview of actual RR Hazmat Events focusing on the approach and techniques utilized to safely respond to incidents presented including initial response, leak mitigation, product transfers, soil/water remediation, and site restoration (presented at the end of the day)

 

Important Details

•    Participants should bring sturdy leather work boots with a defined heel.
•    No open-toe footwear permitted.
•    Attendees should wear long pants
•    Bring additional PPE as required by your employer.

Be at the site at 0800 for coffee and registration. 
 

General Session Training will start at 0830.
