Overview

Training includes:

  • Classroom and hands-on instruction - Sat. Sept. 24
  • Three Drills - Sun. Sept. 25
  • Lunch will be provided both days.
  • CEU hours will be awarded. Certificates will be provided by both TRANSCAER and WVU Fire Service Extension.
    • 8 hours for Sat. Sept. 24 (OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 470 Operations, Technician and Specialist)
    • 6 hours for Sun. Sept. 25 (OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 470 Operations, Technician and Specialist)

If you want to attend both the training on September 24 and the drill portion on September 25 you must register online for BOTH days!

  • 2:00-4:30 Highway – Overview Container characteristics, patch/plug techniques, etc.
  • 4:30 Adjourn

Ethanol Properties & Emergency Response: An overview of ethanol and ethanol-blended fuels, including Chemical and Physical Characteristics of Ethanol and Hydrocarbon Fuels, Fire Fighting Foam Principles, General Health and Safety Considerations, and emergency response. Presented by: Renewable Fuels Association. 

Steel Drums 101 for Emergency Responders: An overview of steel drums, including components of steel drums, the difference between an open-head and a tight-head steel drum; and how to interpret the UN markings. Presented by: Industrial Steel Drums Institute. 

Highway Transportation & Incidents: An introduction to the highway container characteristics, and patch/plug techniques. Presented by: WVU Fire Service Extension

Highway, Ethanol, and Steel Drums Drills(September 25 ONLY)

Important Details

Required Safety Gear: Gloves, helmet, and eye protection. 

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.

Be at the site by 8:00AM for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.

Registration will remain open until after the event. Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration.

Reminder: If you want to attend both the training on September 24 and the drills on September 25 you must register online for BOTH days!
