Overview

Norfolk Southern’s Safety Train will be in your area providing FREE hands-on training. Safety topics include:

Attendee Level

Attendees should be emergency responders: fire departments, law enforcement, emergency medical services, hazmat response teams, emergency management personnel, military, homeland security, rail shippers, and rail customers.

Description

Classroom Sessions

 Students will learn about railroad operations, hazards, and safety rules. Rail hazmat safety and emergency response procedures are reviewed.

Field Exercises

Students will learn about the anatomy of general service and pressure tank cars including protective housings, valves and fittings, safety appliances, jacket, shell and head construction, placards and markings.

Important Details

Required Safety Gear: 

  • Participants should bring sturdy leather work boots with a defined heel.
  • No open-toe footwear permitted.
  • Bring additional PPE as required by your employer.

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.

Be at the site by 0845 for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.

Registration will remain open until after the event. Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration.
