Description
Learning Objectives:
- Define hazardous materials and the general classes (e.g., flammable, corrosive, toxic).
- Recognize the roles and limitations of LEOs during hazmat incidents.
- Understand federal laws and authority related to hazmat (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Identify signs and indicators of clandestine methamphetamine, fentanyl, and explosive labs
- Understand the hazards specific to chemical manufacturing operations
- Recognize booby traps and site security risks
- Apply principles of isolation, notification, and protection at hazmat scenes
- Understand how to coordinate with hazmat teams and other first responders
- Identify and preserve evidence safely at hazmat scenes
- Review relevant case studies and discuss recommended practices and lessons learned
- Understand legal procedures tied to hazardous materials evidence
- Reinforce officer safety and mental health after high-risk hazmat scenes
Important Details
Be at the site by 8:45 AM for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.
Registration will remain open until after the event. Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event; however, we strongly encourage pre-registration.
