Description

Classroom Sessions

Session 1:  Learn about railroad safety, operations, and hazards. Rail hazmat safety and car types, hazard communications and emergency response procedures are reviewed.

Field Exercises

Walk around and through a locomotive to learn emergency shutdown procedures, battery locations, electrical hazards, etc. 

Learn about the anatomy of general service and pressure tank car including protective housings, valves and fittings, truck components, safety appliances, jacket, shell and head protection, placards, and markings.

 Climb on a flat car equipped with all valves, fittings, and protective housings that could be found on tank cars and review their use, appearance, location, and repair techniques.

Important Details

Required Safety Gear: Sturdy leather work boots with a defined heal.  All other PPE as mat be required by your employer. 

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.

Be at the site by 8:45am for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.

Registration will remain open until after the event. Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration.
