Overview

Training includes:

You only need to register for one session. All topics are covered within each 7.5 hour session.

Classroom Sessions

Rail Transportation: An introduction to the railroad industry, UP specific information is presented in limited areas only. This is an interactive presentation and open to questions, comments, and feedback from all attendees.

Ethanol Emergency Response: An overview of ethanol and ethanol-blended fuels, including Chemical and Physical Characteristics of Ethanol and Hydrocarbon Fuels, Fire Fighting Foam Principles, General Health and Safety Considerations, and emergency response.

Field Exercises

Field Exercise 1: Conducted using railroad specific training trailers or one of UP’s training tank cars. This training focuses on familiarization with various valves and fittings on pressure and general service tank cars.

Field Exercise 2 (C-Kit): Learn about potential leak scenarios for chlorine rail tank car valves and fittings and how to mitigate those leaks. Install the Emergency Kit “C” on chlorine tank car valve arrangements for standard and next generation (dual valve system) assemblies.

Field Exercise 3 (Midland Kit): Learn about potential leak scenarios for flammable gas tank car valves and fittings and how to mitigate those leaks. Install the Midland Emergency Response Kit on a typical flammable gas assembly.

Important Details

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT required for hands-on workshop. Solid shoes, preferably high-top boots are recommended, and full-length pants are required. No sandals are permitted. Gloves, hard hats, and safety glasses are optional but recommended.

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.

Be at the site by 8:00 AM for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.

Registration will remain open until after the event. Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration.
