Training Sessions
- Emergency Response to Railroad Incidents - Learn about railroad operations, hazards, and safety rules. Density Study Overview. Rail hazmat safety and emergency response procedures are reviewed. CSX / First Responder on-scene incident expectations.
Field Exercises
- Anatomy of a Tank Car: Learn about the anatomy of general service and pressure tank cars including protective housings, valves and fittings, truck components, safety appliances, jacket, shell and head construction, placards and markings.
- Anatomy of a Locomotive: Learn about the anatomy of a locomotive and discuss unique challenges associated with responding to a rail incident involving them (e.g. Crew rescue; fuel, oil, and other fluid spills; on-board fires, electrical system; air brake system, etc.)
- Protective Housings & Fittings: Learn about the various fittings and safety features inside a variety of protective housings. Understand how to operate valves, obtain temperature and pressure readings, determine "outage," and identify common release points.
Important Details
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT required for hands-on workshop. Solid shoes, preferably high-top boots are recommended, and full-length pants are required. No sandals are permitted. Gloves and safety glasses are required. Hard hats and vests are recommended but optional.
Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercises. Stay hydrated and alert.
Be at the site by 30 minutes prior to the course start time for registration.
You are strongly encouraged to pre-register for this event for lunch planning purposes. We can accommodate a small number of walk-ins at this training.
