Training Day Includes the following:

Event Focus

Topics and Training Modules:  TRACK 2 made up of 6 x 1-Hour Training Rotations

  • TRACK 1:  Awareness Level Responding to Transportation HazMat Incidents (2 Hours)
  • TRACK 2:  Responding to HazMat Transportation Incidents (6 Hours)
    • Rail Tank Car Anatomy and Locomotive Emergencies
    • Tank Truck Emergencies (DANA Transportation)
    • Chlorine Emergencies (A, B and C-Kits Hands-on Training)
    • Leak Mitigation (Safety Train Flat Car)
    • Capping Kits (Midland and C-Kit Application on top of Rail Cars)
    • Responding to Passenger Train Emergencies (NJ Transit)

Description

Combination Class Room and Hands-On Training Opportunities:

Track 1: Awareness Level-Responding to Transportation HazMat Emergencies - General overview for Awareness personnel, Review of the ERG, Case Studies/Videos, HazMat Response Principles.  Upon completion of this 2-hour session, students are able to take tour of the Safety Train and then join in on the various training modules that are taking place and stay for lunch.

Track 2:  Ops/Tech/Specialist Level HazMat Training Modules (Discussions/Hands-On) 

  1. Rail Tank Car Anatomy and Locomotive Emergencies (RR Personnel)- anatomy of general service and pressure tank cars including protective housings, valves and fittings, truck components, safety appliances, jacket, shell and head construction, placards and markings.  Locomotive Emergencies will also be covered in and around the Safety Train power unit.
  2. Tank Truck Emergencies (DANA Transportation) - Anatomy of tank trucks, valves/fittings, driver responsibilities, and detailed tour of MC307/DOT407 tank truck.
  3. Chlorine Emergencies (A, B and C-Kits Hands-on Training) Conducted by Kuehne Chemicals Chlorine Response Team, students will learn about and then apply Chlorine A, B, and C-Kits.
  4. Leak Mitigation (Safety Train Flat Car)-Dow Chemical Distribution Emergency Response members will instruct students on the do's and don'ts of how to investigate and mitigate various leaks/releases on protective housing valve assemblies. (Hands-On)
  5. Capping Kits (Midland and C-Kit Application on top of Rail Cars) - Students will climb on top of the rail cars and apply the Midland and C-Kits within the car's protective housings.
  6. Responding to Passenger Train Emergencies - NJ Transit Instructor will cover the basics of responding to passenger train emergencies.

Important Details

Required Safety Gear: If climbing on the safety train equipment, no open-toed shoes or sandals allowed, please wear safety shoes or a sturdy pair of shoes or sneakers.

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert; liquids and air conditioned rooms will be available.

Be at the site by 7:30AM for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.

Max Registration is 80 participants.  Registration will remain open until after the event if there is room. Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration on transcaer.com website.
