Classroom Session

Incident response review of:

Hands On Session:

Review of critical knowledge including:

  • Tank Car Anatomy
  • Leak Mitigation
  • Tank Car Valves and Fittings
  • Emergency Capping Kits Application
  • Locomotive Hazards

Field Exercises

Field Exercise 1-Basic Leak Control: Responders will receive hands on experience in basic leak control utilizing traditional and new technology. 

Field Exercise 2-Emergency Capping Kits Application: Responders will apply various capping kits to full-scale tank car housings in a simulated leaking environment. Students will learn about potential leak scenarios for Chlorine/Anhydrous Ammonia rail tank car valves and fittings, and how to mitigate those leaks. Install the Emergency Kit "C" or alternate capping kits on tank car valve arrangements for standard assemblies.

Required Safety Gear: Enter all required safety gear {e.g. Safety vest, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, long pants, and steel toe or composite toe boots}

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.

Be at the site by 08:30 for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.

Registration will remain open until after the event. Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration.
