Overview

This course discusses safety while operating on or near the railroad, initial response procedures for first responders, hazardous materials transported by rail, introduction to tank cars, and other equipment found of the railroad (Locomotives and Freight Cars).  Hands on training for the mitigation of potential leaks and spills from tank cars that transport hazardous materials will also be included.

Important Details

Required Safety Gear: Duty uniform including long pants, lace up boots, work gloves, safety glasses, and high visibility vest.  Students are encouraged to bring structural firefighting ensemble for certain hands on evolutions. 

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.
