Description
Classroom Sessions:
This course is offered as a full day of training. The Railroad 101 course will be taught in the morning session with the Responding to Railroad Emergencies being taught in the later session. An evening edition of RR101 will be offered on June 18, 2024. This is to allow for Volunteers and their schedules for training (non-volunteers can attend.) This session has its own registration page.
Railroad 101: This is an introduction to Railroad Emergencies. Learn about railroad operations, hazards, and safety rules. Rail Hazmat safety and emergency response procedures are reviewed and discussed. Tank Car and Rail Car identification procedures will be shown. Basic overviews of valves and fittings will be discussed, with hands-on opportunities.
Responding To Railroad Emergencies: Norfolk Southern is offering a new course designed to build upon our RR101 introductory training course. The new “Responding to Railroad Emergencies" will focus on the below topics and more:
- The D.E.C.I.D.E. Process:
- 9 Stages of a Hazmat Emergency
- Chemical and Physical Properties
- Site Assessment & Safety
- Tank Car/Container Assessment
- Response Objectives & Tactics
- Develop & Execute the Plan
- Offensive Tactics
- Tank Car Capping Kits
Important Details
Required Safety Gear: Safety Vest, Hard Hat / Fire Helmet, gloves, safety Glasses, long Pants, and Steel Toe or composite toe Boots.
Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.
Be at the site by 8:30am for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.
Registration will remain open until after the event. Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration.
