Overview
Training includes:
- Classroom instruction and hands-on training

- Certificates will be provided via email following completion of an electronic evaluation form

Note: Classroom training will be held at the Holiday Inn & Suites. Participants will then travel to the terminal for the site tour, field rotations, and lunch. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation between locations.

Description
Classroom Sessions:
Chemical and physical properties: An overview of molten sulfur and hydrogen sulfide, including their chemical and physical properties, placards, labels, containers, tank construction. Presented by: The Sulphur Institute
Railroad 101: Learn about railroad operations, hazards, and safety rules. Rail hazmat safety and emergency response procedures are reviewed. Presented by: CSX
AskRail® Mobile App: Learn about the AskRail smartphone app - a safety tool giving first responders immediate access to accurate, timely data about what type of hazardous materials a railcar is carrying. Presented by: CSX
Field Exercises:
Nutrien/Savage Terminal Site Tour
Explore a working bulk chemical terminal and gain insight into real-world safety practices, operations, and coordination with emergency responders.
Field Exercise 1 (Flat Car– Fittings/Valves/Housing Overview): Familiarization with various valves and fittings within housings on pressure and general service tank cars.
Field Exercise 2 (Cargo Trailers): Conducted using a cargo trailer provided onsite by Savage. This training focuses on familiarization with various valves and fittings on cargo trailers, and potential leak points.
Field Exercise 3 (Transload Overview): Learn how transload stations transfer hazardous materials between transportation modes, and gain insight into site operations, safety practices, and key considerations for emergency response.
Important Details
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT required for hands-on workshop. Solid shoes, preferably high-top boots are recommended, and full-length pants are required. No sandals are permitted.
Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercises. Stay hydrated and alert.
Be at the site by 7:45 AM for registration. Class will begin promptly at 8:00 AM.
You are strongly encouraged to pre-register for this event for lunch planning purposes. We can accommodate a small number of walk-ins at this training.
