Description
Classroom Sessions:
Hazmat Safety & Emergency Response:Learn about the following related to the Featured Hazmats:
- Physical and chemical properties
- Transportation methods
- Health effects of acute exposure
- First aid and initial medical treatment measures
- Proper selection of personal protective equipment
- Other emergency response considerations
Field Exercises:
A-Kit Workshop: Learn about potential leak scenarios for chlorine 150-lb cylinders and how to mitigate those leaks. Install different versions (pre- and post- 2013 designs) of the Emergency Kit “A” on chlorine cylinders training props.
B-Kit Workshop: Learn about potential leak scenarios for chlorine ton containers and how to mitigate those leaks. Install different versions (pre- and post-2014 designs) of the Emergency Kit “B” on ton container training props.
C-Kit Workshop: Learn about potential leak scenarios for chlorine rail tank car valves and pressure relief device and how to mitigate those leaks. Install the Emergency Kit “C” on chlorine tank car valve arrangements.
Midland ERK & Indian Springs ERK Workshop: Learn about potential leak scenarios for flammable gas tank car valves and fittings and how to mitigate those leaks. Install the Midland and Indian Springs Emergency Response Kits on a typical flammable gas assembly.
Magnetic Patch Workshop: Participants will be able to practice installing the Magnetic Patch on the side of a tank car or highway trailer.
Highway Hazmat Mixed Load Scenario: Practice responding to a highway transportation incident involving a box truck with a mixed hazmat load with various types and sizes of packages involving some simulated unknown leaking materials, including a chlorine cylinder and mitigating the leak with an A-Kit. Effective site hazard assessment, team communication, and decon will be focuses.
Water Treatment Plant Chlorine Leak Scenario: Practice responding to a simulated chlorine leak from a ton container at a water treatment plant using a B-Kit. Effective site hazard assessment, low visibility and confined space response, and team communication will be focuses.
Chlorine Railcar Valve Leak: Practice troubleshooting a simulated chlorine railcar valve leak and effectively applying the C-Kit to mitigate the leak.
Important Details
Required Safety Gear for all Field Exercises: Safety Vest, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, long pants, and steel toe or composite toe boots. Please advise the instructor of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and stay alert!
*Please be at the site by 8:30 AM for registration. Depending on registration & training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.
NOTE: Registration will remain open until after the event! Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration for lunch planning purposes! We look forward to seeing you at the CI/TRANSCAER Event!
