Description
Classroom Instruction:
Responders will learn about railroad operations, hazards, and safety rules. Rail hazmat safety and emergency response procedures are reviewed. Responders will be provided with helpful information to better comprehend the locomotive tactics for emergency response with fires and operations of equipment.
Responders will also learn more about tank compliance & regulations, tank car & commodity types, safety components, and repair & inspection requirements.
Field Exercise:
Responders will have a hands-on tour of the GATX TankTrainer tank car. During the tour, responders will have the opportunity to work with various tank car valves & fittings while on an actual tank car. More importantly, a size-up of the tank car will be conducted to provide education on what you may encounter during a tank car emergency.
Important Details
You only need to register for one session. Each session will be the same information and is intended to cover shift rotations.
Required Safety Gear: Work boots, reflective vest, and gloves are required. Hard hats and helmets optional.
Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert.
Be at the site 15 minutes before start time for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event.
